Stone frontages and a Peterborough commute
The Deepings sit close enough to Peterborough to have grown steadily on the back of the commute, while keeping the character of a group of stone-built villages rather than becoming a suburb. Market Deeping, Deeping St James and West Deeping run into one another along the Welland, and the older properties along the main streets are limestone with pantile roofs.
That stone frontage is worth designing around. A gate that would look perfectly at home on a modern brick estate can sit awkwardly against limestone, and the reverse is also true — traditional metalwork on a new-build frontage can read as fussy rather than smart. Getting this right is a matter of proportion and finish as much as style, and it is worth spending time on at survey.
The newer development around the edges is a different job entirely, with square openings, brick pillars and straightforward ground. Both are well within range of our installer, who is based around 32 miles away in Boston.

Do you install electric gates throughout the Deepings?
Yes — our installer covers Market Deeping, Deeping St James, West Deeping and Deeping Gate, along with the surrounding villages and out towards Bourne, Stamford and Peterborough. Send us an enquiry if you are unsure whether your postcode is covered.
What style of gate suits a stone-built property?
Traditional metalwork generally sits better against limestone than contemporary slatted panels. Wrought iron, painted steel and vertical bar designs all work well, and a lighter, more open design often suits a stone frontage better than a solid one. Your installer will talk through proportion and finish at survey.
How quickly can I get a quote?
Once you submit an enquiry through our quote form, your local installer will typically be in touch within 24 to 48 hours. If you call our 24/7 message line directly you can often arrange a site survey sooner.
Do I need planning permission for electric gates in Market Deeping?
In most cases no — residential electric gates fall under permitted development rights in England. The main exceptions are gates over 1 metre adjacent to a highway, listed buildings, and properties in conservation areas, which covers parts of the older streets in the Deepings. Our planning permission guide covers the rules in full.
What types of electric gate do you supply and install?
Electric swing gates, sliding gates, bi-folding gates, full driveway automation and automatic rising bollards, plus automation retrofits to existing gates where they are structurally suitable. All metalwork is fabricated to measure in-house.
