Installations fall under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, which means a compliant installation should come with a Declaration of Conformity and appropriate UKCA or CE marking — a document you are entitled to ask for and should keep.

The relevant technical standards are BS EN 12453, covering safety in use of power-operated gates, and BS EN 12604, covering mechanical aspects. In practice that means force limitation so the gate stops on contact, photocells across the opening, and safety edges on the leading and closing edges.
